Blood test developed by London's Institute of Cancer Research predicts breast cancer recurrence up to 3 years ahead.
A blood test developed by scientists at the Institute of Cancer Research in London could predict breast cancer recurrence up to three years before conventional scans. The ultra-sensitive test detects tiny amounts of cancer DNA in a patient's blood, using whole genome sequencing to identify genetic mutations linked to cancer. In a trial of 74 women, the test correctly predicted relapse for all participants, leading to hopes of early treatment and improved outcomes for breast cancer patients.
