97-year-old Tin Oo, co-founder of Myanmar's NLD and close associate of Aung San Suu Kyi, passed away on June 1.

97-year-old Tin Oo, a close associate of Myanmar's ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi and co-founder of the National League for Democracy party, passed away on June 1 at Yangon General Hospital. In 1988, Tin Oo, along with Suu Kyi, founded the NLD after a failed revolt against military rule. He served as vice chairman and later chairman of the party. Tin Oo spent 14 of the next 21 years under house arrest, similar to Suu Kyi.
