President William Ruto has approved KES 600 million for sugarcane development, part of a KES 2 billion lease plan to support the sugar sector, a key job creator, under his Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda. The funding is to be used for cane seed development in the sugar belt region. Additionally, the government has written off Sh110 billion worth of sugar factories' debts.
