New Zealand begins Firearms Registry review for safety and effectiveness, launched on 24 June 2023.

New Zealand's Government has begun a review of the Firearms Registry, as per a commitment in the National-ACT coalition agreement. The review aims to evaluate the Registry's effectiveness in improving public safety, addressing concerns over criminal firearms use and registration difficulties faced by licensed firearm owners. Launched on 24 June 2023, the Registry is set to create a digital record of firearms and arms possession over a five-year period.
