9 Mexican wolf pups born at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago were fostered into wild dens in New Mexico as part of the Mexican Wolf Recovery Program. The program aims to increase the endangered species' population in the wild, with 27 pups in total fostered this year in New Mexico and Arizona. The US Forest Service monitors the wolves using GPS and radio telemetry collars, providing supplemental food to wild packs when necessary.
