India's first female UN Ambassador, Ruchira Kamboj, has retired after a 35-year career in the Indian Foreign Service. Kamboj, who joined the service in 1987, served as Ambassador of India to the UN and as Deputy Head of the Office of the Secretary-General at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London. She was also India's Chief of Protocol from 2011-2014, the first woman to hold this position in the Indian government.
