Charity StepChange warns that the cost-of-living crisis and high mortgage rates are increasing homelessness risks in Dudley, where mortgage possession claims rose 28% in the year to March. In 2022-23, there were 65 claims resulting in 10 homes being repossessed. Legal aid remains out of reach for many, as the Law Society's president, Nick Emmerson, urges people struggling with mortgages to contact their lenders and consider the UK's Mortgage Charter flexibilities.
