British Columbia Supreme Court judge approves Northern Pulp mill's settlement agreement to withdraw lawsuit and abandon Pictou operation, while initiating feasibility study for a new kraft pulp mill near Liverpool, Nova Scotia.
A British Columbia Supreme Court judge has approved a settlement agreement between the owners of the Northern Pulp mill and the Nova Scotia government. The agreement, which emerged from a court-ordered mediation in April 2022, sees Paper Excellence, the mill owner, withdrawing its $450m lawsuit against the province and abandoning plans to reopen its idled Pictou County operation. In lieu, the company will initiate a feasibility study for a potential new kraft pulp mill near Liverpool, Nova Scotia.
