Attorney-General to propose up to 7 years' imprisonment for creating & sharing non-consensual deepfake pornography. Legislation to be introduced in Parliament will create a new aggravated criminal offence for those who use technology to create or alter sexually explicit material without consent, with penalties of 6 years if not the creator, or 7 years if the creator shares it without consent. The legislation will also strengthen existing carriage-services offences, making creation of sexually explicit images a Commonwealth offence.
