16 Sub-Saharan African countries' study shows higher taxes on tobacco could help young smokers quit or reduce consumption. Tobacco taxes are declared by WHO as one of the most effective & cost-effective measures to reduce tobacco use. Our study investigated the potential of tax-led price increases to cut cigarette smoking among young people aged 11-17, a demographic at risk due to population growth & industry marketing.
