Ireland's first gardaí in Dublin are now equipped with body-worn cameras as part of a pilot programme, due to expand to Limerick and Waterford later this year. The cameras are expected to provide key evidence in court cases, following recent incidents where members of the public have been verbally and physically abusive towards officers. The use of the cameras has been recommended by the Future of Policing Commission and has long been sought by the Garda unions.
