CFPB sues PHEAA for illegally collecting discharged student-loan payments and providing false borrower info.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has filed a lawsuit against the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), a student-loan servicer, accusing the company of illegally collecting payments from student-loan borrowers whose loans had already been discharged in bankruptcy. PHEAA is also accused of sending false information about borrowers to credit agencies.
