High Court dismisses student's challenge against Leaving Cert Mandarin Chinese exam marking scheme for alleged discrimination.

The High Court has rejected a secondary school student's challenge against the marking scheme for the Leaving Certificate Mandarin Chinese examination. The student claimed that the system discriminated against those who answered using traditional Mandarin characters as opposed to simplified characters. However, Mr Justice Garrett Simons dismissed the claim, also criticizing the manner in which certain linguistic experts gave their evidence to the court.
