Mass General Hospital researchers found low-level light therapy improved brain connectivity in moderate traumatic brain injury patients, suggesting potential benefits for PTSD, depression, and autism.
Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital have found that low-level light therapy could assist in the healing process of significant brain injuries, according to a study published in Radiology. The study involved 38 patients who had suffered moderate traumatic brain injury, with each receiving low-level light therapy through a helmet emitting near-infrared light. The researchers observed improved brain connectivity within two weeks of treatment, which suggests that light therapy might also help treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and autism.
