Former California State Assemblyman Brian Nestande died from a drug overdose involving fentanyl and cocaine, as confirmed by an autopsy report. Nestande, who represented Coachella Valley from 2008 to 2014, was found unresponsive in his Palm Desert home on March 6, 2024. The Riverside County Department of Public Health reported a 23% decrease in fentanyl-related deaths in the county in 2023 compared to 2022.
