Bureau of Ocean Energy Management completes environmental review for Maine's Gulf of Maine offshore wind research lease, allowing 12 floating turbines with 144 MW capacity.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has completed an environmental review allowing a Gulf of Maine offshore wind research lease to advance. The state of Maine plans to install 12 floating offshore wind turbines, producing 144 megawatts of electricity, atop University of Maine-developed platforms. The lease assessment found no significant impacts to the environment, allowing the state to proceed with further work, including a power-purchase agreement. This project marks a milestone in Maine's efforts to embrace ocean wind energy and responsibly develop the offshore wind industry.
