Australia's annual inflation rate rose to 3.6% in April, according to official figures published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 3.6% in the 12 months to April, up from a 3.5% increase in the 12 months to March and marking the second consecutive month of inflation increase. The most significant drivers of inflation were a 4.9% increase in housing costs between April 2023 and 2024, a 3.8% rise in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices, and a 4.2% increase in transport costs.
