Sony India appoints Gaurav Banerjee, ex-head of Hotstar and Disney TV, as new CEO for television and media businesses.
Sony India has appointed Gaurav Banerjee, previously the head of content for Hotstar and head of business for Disney's TV channels in Hindi-speaking markets, as its new chief executive to lead its television and media businesses. Banerjee's appointment follows Disney's plans to merge its India media assets with Reliance's, a deal awaiting regulatory approval. Banerjee will join Sony in about two months, succeeding NP Singh who recently departed after 25 years with the company. Sony currently operates 26 channels in India.
