2028-opened $1.2bn Dakhla port project in Western Sahara aims to establish Morocco as a transshipment hub with a trade port, oil terminal, fishing port and shipyard.
Dakhla, a small city in Western Sahara controlled by Morocco, is turning into a trade gateway with a $1.2 billion port project currently midway through construction. Once completed in 2028, the 1,650-hectare complex will include a trade port, oil terminal, fishing port, and shipyard, bridging land to the port and linking with a national highway. The port aims to create an "ecosystem" for trade and grow Morocco's status as a transshipment hub.
