In Mississippi, some patients in need of mental health treatment are being sent to jail to await court-ordered care, despite not being charged with a crime. This includes patients from Baptist-Desoto hospital. Sandy Jones, whose daughter Sydney experienced a psychotic episode, sought involuntary commitment for her daughter, but instead of receiving treatment, Sydney was detained by sheriff's deputies and placed in jail for a mental evaluation.
