More than £28.7m lost to courier scams targeting the elderly, with victims aged 60-90 losing an average of £20,032 each. Fraudsters pose as police or bank officials, tricking victims into handing over money, valuables or bank cards. People in their 80s are the most likely victims, accounting for 43% of all cases. Police made five arrests in May following a combined effort across England and Wales.
