Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has publicly opposed Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's candidacy for NATO Secretary-General due to Rutte's previous comments about Hungary. Instead, Szijjarto supports Romanian President Klaus Iohannis as an "eastern candidate" for the position. The Hungarian government believes that the NATO Secretary-General should be someone in whom full trust can be placed.
