Columbus County deputy, Kenneth Aaron Smith, has resigned after being arrested for assault involving a deadly weapon and causing serious injury. The incident occurred off-duty and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation is looking into it. Smith was released after posting a $100k bond, and the Columbus County Sheriff's Office announced the investigation on May 24th.
