A new study published in JAMA Network Open shows a link between increased frequency and intensity of heatwaves and premature births. Analyzing 5.3 crore births across the 50 largest US metropolitan areas (1993-2017), researchers found that hot weather conditions, especially intense and prolonged heatwaves, led to a rise in preterm and early-term labor, jeopardizing the health and well-being of the babies.
