Severe storms hit Atlanta area on Memorial Day, causing ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, grounding flights, and leading to widespread power outages. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch throughout Middle Georgia into South Carolina. Over 900 Habersham EMC customers and about 2,500 Jackson EMC customers were left without power due to downed power lines and trees.
