Rare blue-eyed cicada (Magicicada cassini) spotted at Morton Arboretum during 2024 emergence.
A rare blue-eyed cicada, a variant of the Magicicada cassini species, was spotted at the Morton Arboretum in suburban Chicago during the 2024 cicada emergence. The cicada was first seen by a visitor and later brought to the Children's Garden by Senior Horticulturist Kate Myroup. A limited number of individuals saw the blue-eyed insect before its release back into the wild, joining its red-eyed relatives in suburban Chicago.
