2018 Kilauea eruptions may have been caused by ground collapse and pressure increase, similar to a "stomp-rocket" toy.
Hawaiian volcano Kilauea's explosive eruptions in 2018 may have been caused by sudden pressure increases as the ground collapsed, propelling plumes of rock fragments and hot gas, much like a "stomp-rocket" toy. Researchers from the University of Oregon, U.S. Geological Survey, and China's Sichuan University analyzed the dynamics of 12 such explosions and published their findings in Nature Geoscience.
