90 barges of contaminated soil have been removed from the Squamish LNG site near Howe Sound, as part of the site's cleanup. Woodfibre LNG spokesperson Sean Beardow explained that soil must be removed from the site if it exceeds Industrial Land Standards, which includes soils containing organic materials or invasive species. The historic use of the site led to some soils exceeding the Industrial Land Standards for metals and hydrocarbons.
