Kansas City's Weld Wheel Building, vacant since 2003, was demolished on May 19, 2024. The 114-year-old structure, also known as the Ridenour-Baker Grocery Company Building, was imploded to make way for a $526.7M redevelopment plan in the West Bottoms area. Developer Somera Road will convert 13 historic buildings, creating 1,600 new housing units and office, retail, and urban park spaces.
