A potential train accident was averted on the Konkan Railway route near Udupi, thanks to track maintainer Pradeep Shetty who noticed a track weld failure between Innanje and Padubidri. Shetty reported the defect at 2.25 am, preventing a possible train mishap. The defect was quickly fixed, and a track-fit certificate with a speed restriction of 20 kmph was issued. KRCL Chairman and Managing Director Santosh Kumar Jha recognized Shetty's quick action and awarded him Rs 25,000.
