Strath Haven's Gavin Schmidt secured silver in the discus at the PIAA Class 3A state championships, finishing with a throw of 177-1. Despite leading after the first round, Schmidt was beaten by Peyton Murray of Hempfield Area with a throw of 186-6. Schmidt's coach, George Munro, praised his athlete's impressive improvement over the past 14 months, as he only began track last year.
