Indian restaurant owners in NZ fined NZ$99,000 for exploiting immigrant workers, paying less than NZ$8/hour, and threatening deportation.

Indian restaurant owners Jayant and Deepti Kaushal in New Zealand are fined NZ$99,000 for exploiting immigrant workers at their Chilli India restaurant in Hamilton, who were paid less than NZ$8/hour and not compensated for all working hours. The couple devised a scheme threatening deportation unless workers paid NZ$30,000 each. The Employment Relations Authority found them guilty of numerous employment law breaches.
