Indian director Payal Kapadia wins Cannes 2024 Grand Prix for film "All We Imagine as Light", first Indian in 30 years to compete.

Indian director Payal Kapadia made history at Cannes 2024, winning the Grand Prix for her film "All We Imagine as Light", the first Indian movie in 30 years to compete. Kapadia, an FTII alumna, previously faced disciplinary action and an FIR during a 131-day student protest against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the institute's chairman in 2015. Despite the challenges, she became the first Indian to win the Grand Prix at Cannes.
