Illinois legislature approved a measure changing 'unlawful use' of firearm charges to 'unlawful possession'. Introduced by Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, the change is aimed to remove the negative stigma associated with the term 'unlawful use' for individuals who possess a firearm illegally but not in the commission of another crime. The alteration does not intend to change the level of punishment for such convictions.
