7 cancer patients in Ballarat, with advanced cases where existing treatments failed, are participating in ground-breaking trials for new drugs that could change cancer treatment methods. Grampians Health is the only regional health service involved in phase one oncology clinical research, the first human trials of promising new drugs. Medical oncologist Dr Lizzie Lim, who specializes in drug development, is leading a team with multiple phase one trials underway at Ballarat Base Hospital.
