West Virginia Governor Jim Justice ends 2-year state of emergency for Department of Corrections staffing.
West Virginia Governor Jim Justice ended the state of emergency over staffing within the state's Department of Corrections, which had been in place for almost two years. The governor called on the state National Guard to help address worker attrition at jails and prisons in 2020 and had previously cited a vacancy rate of over 30%. The state's corrections academy has seen 238 graduates this year, and 38 National Guard members assigned to work in the jails and prisons have chosen to stay on permanently.
