San Diego's Golden Hall homeless shelter, damaged by winter storms, will close by year's end; Mayor Gloria plans to relocate residents and redevelop the site.
San Diego's Golden Hall homeless shelter, damaged by winter storms, will close by year's end. The 60-year-old facility, initially a temporary shelter, requires $9.3m to operate permanently, deemed unwise due to future redevelopment plans. Mayor Todd Gloria aims to find a developer for the site and increase shelter capacity by 1,000 beds and 200 Safe Parking stalls, with residents relocated to existing or newly-funded facilities.
