Nigeria increases medical school enrollment and allocates funds for primary healthcare facilities to address brain drain in the medical sector.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed that Nigeria is gradually resolving the issue of brain drain in the medical sector, with doctors returning to practice locally. The government has increased the enrolment quota for medical, nursing, and other health schools from 28,000 to 64,000, and has allocated N260 billion for the revitalisation of primary health care facilities across the country. The minister stated that 10 major healthcare infrastructure projects, including new radiology and clinical pathology centres, would soon be launched across Nigeria, as part of efforts to revolutionise the health sector.
