New York City Mayor Eric Adams plans to ease lifeguard requirements, eliminating the 300-yard swim test and adjusting vision qualifications. This will enable lifeguards from splash pads to move to pools, and pool lifeguards to work at beaches. The updated rules, expected to impact beaches starting next summer, will also contact previous test-failures to inform them of their eligibility.
