2019 Notre-Dame fire survivor, the 12-meter cross, reinstalled on cathedral framework in Paris; restoration efforts aim for reopening on December 8, 2024.
Notre-Dame's cross, which survived the 2019 fire, has been reinstalled on the cathedral's framework in Paris. The cross, spanning 12 meters and weighing 1.5 tons, is the only element of the choir roof that resisted the flames. The restoration project, involving around 250 companies and hundreds of craftsmen, architects, and professionals, aims for the cathedral's reopening on December 8, 2024. The 2019 fire caused the collapse of Notre-Dame's spire and part of its roof.
