The act aims to prevent those in need of treatment from falling through the cracks, following the 2022 death of Michelle Go, who was pushed onto a subway track in New York City by a stranger with mental illness. The act is supported by a rare alliance of Democratic Congressman Dan Goldman and Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis.
