Illinois lawmakers missed a Friday deadline to pass a budget, but approved over 250 bills, including one that prohibits public universities from admitting students based on familial and donor ties. Senate Bill 462 also prevents institutions from considering an applicant's relationships to donors or past, present, or future university members. The new law covers relationships from immediate relatives to engaged couples.
