60-year-old Brazilian farmer, Vernei Kunz, lost 4,300 of his 5,000 pigs when the Forqueta river overflowed its banks in Rio Grande do Sul. The catastrophic flooding, which killed over 160 people, devastated Kunz's town of Travesseiro. Kunz and his workers saved about 700 pigs; the rest drowned. The slaughterhouse he works with collected the saved pigs and sent them to other farms in the region.
