Study in Nature Water finds climate change reduces Colorado River's water supply due to groundwater depletion during dry periods.

A study in Nature Water reveals that climate change will reduce the Colorado River's water supply, as increasing temperatures lead to rapid depletion of groundwater during dry periods, with no full recovery during wet periods. This depletion causes streamflow to be absorbed into the ground instead of flowing into the river, exacerbating the existing water crisis. Researchers from the Desert Research Institute, USGS, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory conducted the study.
