42-year-old Wellington man Dan O'Donnell discovered two AK-74 rifles and ammunition, dated back to 1993, during his first metal detecting session in the suburb of Berhampore. The weapons were buried deep with tree roots growing over them. O'Donnell contacted the police, who confirmed the discovery and said they would conduct a forensic examination of the items as part of ongoing enquiries.
