The Writers Guild of Canada ratifies a 3-year contract with CMPA, featuring pay increases for writers and AI protections.
The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) has ratified a new 3-year contract with the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA), which includes pay increases for writers, story editors, and story consultants, and AI protections. The Independent Production Agreement raises live-action script fees by 5%, 4%, and 3.5% over three years, and animation script fees by 5%, 11.5%, and 3.6% over the same period. Starting from January 1, 2025, new minimum staffing requirements will be enforced, and producers must disclose and adhere to the labour deal when hiring writers to work with AI-generated content.
