Victoria woman Sakina Muhammad Jan found guilty of forcing her daughter into marriage in 2019, resulting in murder by groom.

A Victoria, Australia woman, Sakina Muhammad Jan, has been found guilty of forcing her 20-year-old daughter, Ruqia Haidari, into marriage with Mohammad Ali Halimi in 2019. Jan denied coercing her daughter during a County Court trial, but was charged with causing a person to enter into a forced marriage. Halimi murdered his new wife at their Perth home in January 2020 and is currently serving life in prison in Western Australia with a minimum of 19 years. The jury deliberated for just over a day before returning a guilty verdict to the Melbourne court. Jan's bail was extended and she will face a pre-sentence hearing on July 23.
