NASA's new high-resolution, lightweight infrared cameras, developed at Goddard Space Flight Center, enable improved Earth observation, forest fire warnings, and exploration of other planets' molecular compositions. The compact cameras use sensitive strained-layer superlattice sensors, attach filters directly to the detector, and can be chilled for infrared detection using smaller, more efficient coolers, making them suitable for small satellites and missions.
