A 3.9 magnitude earthquake shook the Goulburn region in New South Wales on May 23, with tremors felt as far as Canberra. The earthquake occurred near Taralga, north of Goulburn, at a depth of one kilometre. Geoscience Australia reported the event and received numerous reports from Canberra residents. The quake is not an uncommon occurrence in the region, with over 250 small events registered within the past 20 years.
