China conducts two-day military drills around Taiwan in response to Lai Ching-te's inauguration.

China has begun two days of military drills surrounding Taiwan, involving navy vessels and aircraft, as a "strong punishment" for "separatist acts" after the self-ruled island's new president, Lai Ching-te, was sworn in. The military exercise comes three days after Lai's inauguration, and China claims Taiwan as part of its territory, regarding the island as a renegade province.
